Clean Plates Club: A Perfect Week in the Ville

What a week to savor! From April 7-13, Louisville's restaurant scene served up something special — not a single failed inspection among 101 visits from health officials. That's right, folks: zero C-grades across the board. It's like finding an empty parking spot on Bardstown Road during Friday night dinner rush — rare and beautiful.

LouVUE by the Numbers

This week's inspection breakdown was as satisfying as a Hot Brown:

  • Regular inspections: 90
  • Follow-up inspections: 7
  • Other inspections: 4
  • Total: 101 inspections

A Quick Refresher on How the Grades Work in the Ville

  • Grade A (green): A passing grade indicating a generally safe facility. Score of 85–100 with no priority violations — serious issues most likely to cause foodborne illness, such as improper food holding temperatures.
  • Grade B (blue): Facility is "under review" while health officials work with them to pass future inspections. Issued after failing two routine inspections in a row, or automatically during a follow-up inspection if the facility had to close because of an imminent health hazard (regardless of prior grades). Patrons should be mindful.
  • Grade C (red): Facility has failed its inspection. Issued for any of these reasons: (1) one or more priority violations, such as poor hygienic practices, lack of hot/cold water, or improper sanitizing — even with a score as high as 98; (2) score below 85 due to a high number of non-priority violations; or (3) an imminent health hazard requiring closure (e.g., infestation, loss of electricity or water). These are serious and require a follow-up within 7–10 days.
  • Priority violations: High risk for foodborne illness. Even one is enough to drop a place to a C.

Second Servings: Redemption Stories Worth Celebrating

Seven establishments that previously earned C-grades got their second chance this week — and six of them absolutely knocked it out of the park with A-grades:

Only California Pizza Kitchen remains in B-grade territory despite scoring a perfect 100. Remember, a B-grade during follow-up inspections is automatic protocol, regardless of the score, when a facility previously had to close due to an imminent health hazard.

Perfect Plates: This Week's 100-Point Club

Five establishments earned perfect scores this week, proving that excellence is always on the menu:

Cautionary Cuisine: The Cupboard is Bare

For the first time in recent memory, we have nothing to report in this section. Not a single C-grade to discuss, no critical violations to decode, no cautionary tales to tell. It's like having an empty complaint box at your favorite restaurant — unusual, but absolutely wonderful.

The Check, Please: A Toast to Excellence

This week proves that when Louisville's food service industry puts its mind to it, magic happens. From barbecue joints to private clubs, from Vietnamese bakeries to sports bars, our city's establishments showed they can rise to the occasion when it matters most.

Of course, this clean sweep doesn't mean we can get comfortable. Food safety is an every-day, every-service commitment. But this week? This week deserves a celebration. So next time you're dining out, remember that behind every great meal is a team committed to keeping you safe — and this week, they all delivered.

Keep checking back at LouVUE for your weekly dose of food safety transparency. Because knowing is half the battle, and eating safely is the other half.

Bon appétit, Louisville!
